Why Dr. Sean Lee is the Solution to California’s Insurance Crisis

Introduction: A System Under Strain
California is currently navigating a once-in-a-lifetime insurance emergency. For millions of residents, the peace of mind that once came with homeownership has been replaced by overwhelming financial hardship. The “California Dream” is being threatened not just by the elements, but by a complete system failure of both leadership and vision within the Department of Insurance.
Whether you look at the wildfire-prone Sierras or dense urban centers like LA and San Francisco, the end result for most people is similar: either you lose your insurance (foreclose) or you can’t afford it any longer. Many people are paying premiums that exceed wage growth and inflation and this isn’t a temporary market fluctuation; this is a structural failure. Current regulations do not work because they were created for another time; they are failing to keep up with the changing global climate and the rapidly changing global economy.
To ensure a positive future for California, we need a leader who has more than just a desire to be in power, but who also understands how to change the way Sacramento does business; this is Dr. Sean Lee.
Visions: New Developments in Private Sector Solutions for the Common Good
Dr. Sean Lee is not just a seasoned politician but also has experience solving problems as an Executive in high-level Financial Services for Customer-centric Companies such as Amazon and Disney. Therefore, he possesses the ability to manage large and complex organizations while making sure that your needs and desires are being met through product/service offerings; this is why he is an excellent candidate among the 11 candidates for California Insurance Commissioner.
Establishing Corporate Responsibility in Sacramento
Companies are subjected to a high standard of performance in the private business world. They can be rated based on:
– Effectiveness of Services: The rate and efficiency with which problems are resolved,
– Transparency: How clear and easily understood the processes are to the average person,
– Levels of Customer Satisfaction: How the service delivered matches what was paid for by the customer.
Dr. Lee believes that each voter in California is a “customer” of state government and has purchased government services via the taxes they pay. For too long, the Coverage Insurance Department (Department of Insurance) has operated without this type of accountability and has not had the same high levels of service and efficiency as private sector companies. Dr. Lee’s goal is to assure that the government operates with the same commitment to providing excellent service as do the private sector companies who are successful globally.
A Scientific Way to Handle Risk: The CAL Reinsure Model
Dr. Lee’s CAL Reinsure model is at the Center of Dr. David D. Lee’s platform. The new “Risk Transfer Model” that Dr. Lee developed gives California a Whole New Way to Address Catastrophic Emissions.
Current Challenges of the FAIR Plan Are Not Enough
The high-loss ratios and extreme fire-risk environment have caused many insurers to withdraw or restrict coverage in California. Thousands of people have turned to the “FAIR Plan,” although it was originally created as a “last-resort” option; in many cases, it has become the only option.
The goal of the CAL Reinsure program is to develop a new system for California that replaces the FAIR Program and other similar state-level programs, providing a more complete and market-stabilizing framework. The program will focus on the following areas:
A speedy recovery by streamlining capital flow to communities impacted by catastrophic wildfires so that they can start rebuilding immediately;
Stabilized marketplaces incentivizing both national insurance carriers to return to the California market, through a more transparent, data-driven process for sharing risk;
Reliable capital – setting up insurance as an independent and reliable source of recovery rather than as a bureaucratic barrier to recovery funds.
The phased approach for implementing CAL Reinsure will lead to the restoration of confidence from both insurance companies and families who use insurance.
No Longer Passively Watching While Insurance Companies Deny Claims For ‘Bad Faith’
Now, with Dr. Lee as the new commissioner of the California Department of Insurance, he plans to actively take part in investigating and prosecuting insurance companies that deny claims in “bad faith.” Victims of disasters shouldn’t have to worry about going to court against their insurance company to collect on policies that they have paid premiums for.
Small business are the heart of the California economy, however, many businesses could close due to dramatically rising premiums and an unreliable commercial insurance market. Dr. Lee will develop policies specifically designed to stabilize these markets, allowing local entrepreneurs to protect their investment without being priced out of the market.
The cost of insurance and community safety are not only interrelated, they are profoundly affected by each other. With this in mind, Dr. Lee intends to work alongside local governments to create and enforce strong fire-safety standards. By improving the physical resilience of our communities through better vegetation management and new building codes, we will naturally lower the cost of insurance for all.
The Path to the June 2026 Primary Election
In California, the future of the insurance industry will ultimately be determined by the voters. On June 2, 2026, there will be a choice to make regarding insurance:
Option 1 Maintain the Status Quo: The current system has been plagued with repeatedly increasing costs, fewer choices and a bureaucratic process that is stuck in first gear.
Option 2 Elect an Innovative Leader: The next governor should be able to bring private sector innovation and experience, as well as a “customer first” approach to the governmental operations, to provide insurance reform related solutions. Dr. Sean Lee’s proposal is not simply a list of complaints or accusations; but rather, it is a complete, workable plan for insurance reform that will benefit California homeowners, automobile owners and businesses throughout the state.
